At the heart of our community, the Folcroft Fire Company is driven by the spirit of volunteerism. Whether you’re looking to be on the frontline as a firefighter or EMS, or support in numerous other capacities, there’s a role for you.
Diverse Opportunities
Firefighting and emergency medical services are one of the most diverse and challenging professions today. But volunteering isn’t limited to emergency response. Our volunteers also engage in:
- Facility maintenance
- Fundraising and community events
- Fire safety education
- Administrative duties
- And much more!
What Does It Take?
Most of our members at Folcroft Fire Company have entered the company with no previous fire or EMS experience. Folcroft Fire Company prides itself on a strong foundation of training that begins on the first day. While formal training to ride is eventually required, new members are able to ride in a limited capacity after receiving basic in-house training.
Initial formal training consists of the Entry Level Firefighter (FFI) program, also referred to as the Essentials of Firefighting class, taught at our Emergency Services Training Center in Darby Township, PA. This class spans 242 hours over 14 weeks, with classes held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (6:00 PM to 10:00 PM) and all day Saturday (8:00 AM to 5:00 PM). Students receive instruction in theories of fire behavior and suppression, forcible entry, ventilation, property salvage, basic hazardous materials training, as well as first aid and CPR.
The majority of the class is hands-on, and successful completion results in National Certification as a Basic Firefighter. Upon completing the Essentials of Firefighting class, members are encouraged to pursue additional specialty classes that align with their interests and support our operations. These include training in vehicle rescue, rope rescue, hazardous materials, and advanced firefighting operations.
Weekly Training Sessions
Sharpen your skills and stay prepared with our weekly crew nights every Tuesday from 7-9 PM.
